The National Assembly member for Kiang West, Lamin Ceesay, said in a radio interview that a series of road inaugurations led by President Adama Barrow are politically motivated and unlikely to prevent what he predicted would be the president’s defeat in the 2026 election.

Speaking to West Coast Radio, Mr. Ceesay argued that the timing of the projects, unveiled in various parts of the country, appears designed to influence voters ahead of the polls.

“Absolutely politically motivated,” he said. “But the president himself knows that won’t rescue him from going out of office in December 2026. He is losing the elections to the opposition.”

Hon. Ceesay also pointed to what he described as the incumbent’s advantage in resources and backing from segments of the business community. He said some businesses benefit from government procurement and may favor continuity in leadership.

“Major business communities in this country, business interests, and men and women in this country are getting their money from government procurements,” he said.

At the same time, Mr. Ceesay sought to position the opposition as pro-business, saying a change in government would not deter investment. Instead, he said, it would introduce stronger legislation and incentives to promote transparency, encourage competition, and support private sector growth.

“We are going to have more investors because we will have good legislation that will give more incentives to the private sector, not only to empower them, but we will give them more incentives so that they will come and invest in this country and employ more youth so that we will be able to drastically minimize the irregular migration,” he said.
