 President Barrow Confirms His Candidacy For NPP

President Adama Barrow, the leader and Secretary General of the National People’s Party (NPP), has confirmed he will be the party’s presidential candidate in the upcoming election.

Previously, President Barrow had expressed uncertainty about running in the 2026 presidential election, However, during the opening of the NPP’s political bureau in Kerewan last Wednesday, he affirmed his candidacy.

“I would like to address some opposition parties discussing President Barrow; they have significant internal conflicts to resolve. Let them address those issues before focusing on President Barrow. It is clear that I am the NPP’s leader, Secretary General, and candidate. While they debate over their next candidate, some labeling others as too old or too young , we are ready for any opponent, whether experienced or not. We believe that hard work is rewarded by God, and we have worked diligently,” President Barrow stated.

In December 2021, President Barrow secured victory with 457,519 votes, amounting to 53.2% of the total votes. His main competitor, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe of the United Democratic Party (UDP), received 238,253 votes (27.7%). Other candidates included Mamma Kandeh of the GDC with 105,902 votes (12.3%), Halifa Sallah of PDOIS with 32,435 votes (3.8%), Independent candidate Essa Mbye Faal with 17,206 votes (2.0%), and Abdoulie Jammeh of the NUP with 8,252 votes (1.0%).
