The Gambia Police Force (GPF) issued a press release on September 25, 2023, urging drivers to collect their new or renewed driver’s licences promptly.

The GPF Licence Unit is struggling with drivers who apply for or renew their licences, but then fail to pick them up. The unit says that these drivers are content with their payment receipts, leaving the unit with the burden of storing the unclaimed licences.

“It is important to note that the renewal of driver’s licences is no longer limited to year-end; recent changes have made it a year-round process. Consequently, individuals are strongly encouraged to collect their licences within two weeks of issuance from their respective locations, including Banjul, Kanifing, Brikama, and others.

“Additionally, it has been observed that some drivers opt to show payment receipts as proof of payment for a valid driver’s licence instead of possessing a physical licence. To address this, any receipt presented for verification beyond two-week issuances will not be considered a valid substitute for a driver’s licence. The law will be applied accordingly,” the police say in a statement.

The Gambia Police Force seeks the full cooperation of the public in adhering to traffic regulations and ensuring the responsible and timely collection of driver’s licences.
