“The would-be migrants are profiled and processed at the GID’s withholding center in Tanji while receiving counseling and care from the Gambia Red Cross Society,” the department said.

The GID reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border surveillance and combating irregular migration through sustained patrols and coordinated operations with other security agencies.

The department also appealed for continued cooperation from local communities, individuals, civil society organizations, the media, and national and international partners in addressing irregular migration.

It emphasized that public support and collaboration remain essential to its efforts to prevent irregular migration and strengthen border security.
