The National Youth Wing of the National People’s Party (NPP) has applied for a permit to protest against corruption in the local government administrations.

“Pursuant to section 25(1) D and section 5(2) of The Gambia constitution 1997 and the public order act No 7 of 1961 Cap.22.01 respectively; we the members of the National People’s Party (NPP) youth wing hereby submit our application for a permit to conduct a peaceful procession to express our concerns over the high level of corruption and inefficiency at councils as indicated in numerous reports of the Auditor General. It is our fervent belief that these consistent reports of corruption erode the fabrics of our collective prospects towards national development,” they said in a letter written to me IGP.

The peaceful procession is scheduled for Thursday, 16 March 2023 from 11:00am to 15:00pm.

“We intend to march from the McCarthy Square to the gate of the National Assembly building to hand over a petition to the lawmakers expressing our grave concerns regarding the deplorable conditions of the councils due to corruption and to implore on the Honourable members to expedite the enactment of the anti-corruption bill,” they concluded.

The police last week granted the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP)’s Youth Wing to protest against corruption in the government.
