Windstorm Kills 10, Affects 3, 140, Displaces 1, 531
Last night’s windstorm in The Gambia has killed 10 people, affected 3, 140 and internally displaced 1, 531.
“It has caused considerable damage to life and livelihood. As of now, there are 10 fatalities.
“As we are speaking, 3140 have already been affected…1, 531 [have been] internally displaced. This is very serious.
“North Bank [Region] is hard hit as we are speaking now, because we recorded 9 deaths [in the region] and 1 [death] in the West Coast Region,” Sanna Dahaba, Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency told journalists this afternoon.
He lamented that any soul that is lost to this disaster is a big loss to the nation.
The NDMA top man said the storm was moving at an estimated speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
