UDP thanks former ministers for their “outstanding” service to nation

26

“The UDP recognises that, as a nation, we face several challenges — some caused by the legacy of dictatorship and some triggered by global events beyond our control, but we are also cognisant of the self-inflicted wounds on the body politic of our nation. We noted several unforced errors of judgment and decisions, and have seen many missed opportunities.”

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has praised three former cabinet ministers belonging to their party who were sacked by President Adama Barrow for their “outstanding” service to the nation.

In a statement on Monday, the UDP said its leaders are always ready and willing to serve the country with “integrity and distinction”

The sacked ministers were party leader and secretary general Ousainou Darboe, senior administrative secretary Lamin Dibba and their treasurer Amadou Sanneh.

Darboe was the vice president and Dibba was agriculture minister while Sanneh was trade minister before they were all sacked about three weeks ago.

Below is the statement:

On behalf of the Deputy Party Leader, Majority Leader of the National Assembly, the Mayor of Banjul, the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, the Chairman of Brikama Area Council West Coast Region, the Chairman of Mansakonko Area Council, Lower River Region, the Chairman of Janjangburay Area Council Central River Region [S]  the Chairman Basse Area Council, Upper River Region and indeed on behalf of the National Executive Committee we wish to profoundly thank the UDP TRIO:  the Party Leader and Secretary General Lawyer Ousainou ANM Darboe Senior Administrative Secretary  Alh, Lamin Ndanbu Dibba and UDP Treasurer  Alh. Amadou Sanneh for their outstanding service to the Nation;

As a Party, the UDP is proud of the service of our leaders to the Gambia; whenever the nation calls on them they are ready and willing to serve with integrity and distinction. As citizens, we must all appreciate that the circumstances which we now face require sacrifice and dedicated service to the Gambian people. UDP has the resilience and commitment to stay the course, and will lead by example, by being the change that we would like to see in this nation.

UDP is clear about what needs to be done. A detailed, comprehensive, wide-ranging and broad-based suite of detailed policy initiatives and measures have been developed to place the country on the road to recovery and stability. These are outlined in the National Development Plan.

As a Party the UDP has kept faith with the people always conscious of the abiding truth that all power resides with the people. That to sustain political legitimacy one’s work will make the people willingly trust to vest their power in you. As the majority Party in the National Assembly the United Democratic Party is committed to rebuilding our country and economy, restoring confidence, equity and social justice and improving every area of national life.

The UDP recognises that, as a nation, we face several challenges — some caused by the legacy of dictatorship and some triggered by global events beyond our control, but we are also cognisant of the self-inflicted wounds on the body politic of our nation. We noted several unforced errors of judgment and decisions, and have seen many missed opportunities.

For the record UDP as a Party envisions a society where integrity and morality in public life is of the highest priority and the Government serves the public good above all else, and where decisions are made and actions taken by the Government in the best interest of all concerned.

As a Party let us focus our collective energy on working together as one family — the national family — to ensure that we remain on the path to peace, progress and prosperity, which we have all fought so hard to win.

As a Party let us go forward as an intelligent and responsible people, doing what has to be done to protect the gains we have made.

As a Party let us all recommit to making The Gambia a country which stands as a lasting example of unity and strength in diversity.

As a Party let us go forward as one people, defending our homeland with boundless faith in our destiny.

A UDP Government will lead judiciously and conscientiously, with frequent community and sectoral conversations on the many matters of national interest as we proceed to transform our country and improve the lives of citizens.

UDP, through astute leadership and good governance, targets to partner with every business, every worker, and every citizen to recalibrate the economy to its correct posture of sustainable growth, development, social peace, economic stability and transformation, where all citizens will obtain their fair share of national resources through good, honest, equitable and transparent governance.

UDP’s approach to governance is  evidence-driven, based on data and scientific knowledge while paying due attention, at all times, to the need for compassion and sensitivity, environmental responsibility and the respect for the rights and freedoms of all citizens in all matters of state.

LONG LIVE UDP
