Second batch of tourists arrive on Monday

The second batch of tourists from Holland have arrived at the Banjul International Airport on Monday, barely a month since the season started.

The 169 tourist arrivals came after some over 300 arrivals about two weeks ago from mainly Holland and Russia.

The executive director of the Gambia Tourism Board, Abdoulie Hydara, was at the airport to receive the tourists.

Tourism plays a crucial role in the Gambian economy contributing about 20% to the country’s GDP. The target of the Gambian authorities is to increase the arrivals which is at 200, 000 arrivals to 350, 000 in five years.

Hydara said by their current figures that goal is very achievable.

“This is going to be a very busy week… So far so good, the season is promising,” he told Kerr Fatou at the airport.
