Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, the president of REFELA-Africa is currently in New York to participate in the sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

“I have been invited to New York in my capacity as the president of the network of the locally elected women in Africa known by its French acronym REFELA, to participate at the sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women that is taking place from 6 to 17 March 2023,” the REFELA-Africa President wrote on her Facebook page.

Mayor Lowe said the conference will consider the priority theme of innovation and technological change and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls which is linked to the theme of International Women’s Day.

“Today, I delivered a speech at a session that was on “Cities forging the path to gender justice”. The session was organized by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa in partnership with the Council for European Municipalities and Regions and the European Mediterranean Partnership of Local and Regional Authorities. The outcome was positive and I believe firmly that when women come together they can change the world in a positive direction – to elect and appoint more women in leadership positions,” she concluded.
