Independent candidate Ahmed Gitteh says he will charge for garbage collection if he is elected chairman of Brikama Area Council to help empower people that are running small-scale businesses.

“I am going to charge. NPP is charging for Samba Juma Bridge and its taxpayer’s money. I wouldn’t agree with the president on that one even though I am an NPP man. You just Cross the bridge but you pay the money. So, I am going to charge like Talib is doing. We just going to make people understand that before it is fixed, it pains. There is a problem and we need to fix that problem.

“How do we fix it? We have to go through the pain. That I am not going to hide from people. I will just for perhaps D1000 per month or perhaps D300 or D400. How many compounds do we have? I am saying even from garbage collection alone we will make a substantial amount of money to start empowering people that are in charge of small-scale businesses,” he said.

President Barrow last week during an interview with Star TV, criticized the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), Talib Ahmed Bensouda, for charging for garbage collection in KM. The president said his mayors and chairmen will never do such. Despite being a member of the National People’s Party (NPP), Ahmed Gitteh who is going to contest on an independent ticket after a primary brawl with his party says he will charge for garbage collection.
