Fabakary Tombong Jatta (FTJ) Interim leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) has said that former President Yahya Jammeh’s pronouncement “didn’t shake”, but “fortified” them.
“We want to show the whole world that this pronouncement made by former President Yahya Jammeh [on Friday], didn’t shake us a bit, but fortified us. That means we were trying and now we should even try more. We have people in our midst who are very close to the former president (Yahya Jammeh). They are in solidarity with us and they are here sitting. That alone satisfied us. We are in control of the APRC now, if anyone wants a position, let him or her to-go-to Sheikh Tijan Hydara, not us,” Jatta stated.
Tombong Jatta made these remarks on Friday shortly after the former president Yahya Jammeh in a telephone call addressed APRC supporters opposing the NPP-APRC alliance and denied that the alliance with President Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP was approved by him.
“I want to make it very clear. I have taken full leadership of the APRC Party as stated in the constitution of APRC. I am the supreme leader, flag barrier and I am the party Chairman and I want to make this announcement very clear,” Jammeh told APRC supporters opposing the alliance.
The former Gambian leader later went on to form a new committee, as a replacement to Fabakary Tombong Jatta led executive.
