The Deputy Party Leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Lamin Jatta, has called on opposition leaders to avoid sidelining capable individuals who have the potential to lead a united opposition coalition to victory, emphasizing that personal interests should not hinder the quest for political change.

Speaking at the party’s mega rally in Jambur, Jatta urged opposition leaders to prioritize competence and collective success over personal preferences.

“I am pleading with party leaders not to envy anyone who is worthy of leading us and remove him simply because we do not want him to lead,” he said.

Jatta also stressed the importance of opposition unity ahead of the 2026 presidential election, dismissing suggestions that opposition parties are incapable of working together.

“If they think that we will not be united, then they are wrong because we are going to be united,” he stated.

According to Jatta, the opposition’s primary objective is to bring meaningful change to The Gambia and improve the livelihoods of citizens, particularly young people facing unemployment.

“We have plans to transform this country so that young people can see opportunities for themselves and secure employment within the country,” he said.

He further urged opposition leaders to remain focused on their shared goal of political change, suggesting that internal disagreements should not distract them from the larger mission.

“Our focus should be on removing Adama Barrow. After that, we can address our differences,” he remarked.

Jatta concluded by calling on Gambians to remain united for the benefit of future generations, emphasizing the need to create opportunities that will improve the lives of young people.

“Gambians should stand together so that our children can enjoy the benefits tomorrow and have access to employment opportunities,” he said.
