Dr. Tangara Hands Over as Sering Modou Njie Begins Tenure with First Bilateral Meeting

Sering Modou Njie, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, held his first official bilateral engagement on assuming office with Senegalese High Commissioner to The Gambia, Mariame Sy. The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Banjul, underscored the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal.
Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing cross-border cooperation, addressing regional security concerns, and advancing joint initiatives. Both officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to peaceful and mutually beneficial relations.
Earlier that day, the ministry held a formal ceremony to officially welcome Minister Njie to his new role. In his remarks, he expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception and commended the leadership and staff of the ministry for their dedication to promoting The Gambia’s foreign policy objectives and enhancing the country’s international standing.
Minister Njie reiterated his intention to work closely with all stakeholders in furthering The Gambia’s diplomatic outreach and international cooperation. He also extended his congratulations to his predecessor, Hon. Dr. Mamadou Tangara, on his recent appointment as the African Union Special Representative in Mali and the Sahel, praising his outstanding leadership and service during his tenure.
Dr. Tangara congratulated Minister Njie and welcomed him to the Ministry, encouraging the staff and Cabinet to offer their full support in executing the Ministry’s strategic mandate.
Permanent Secretary Lang Yabou also assured Minister Njie of the unwavering support and cooperation of the ministry’s staff. He acknowledged the new minister’s track record in diplomacy and public service and expressed confidence in his leadership.
“The ministry looks forward to continued progress under the leadership of Honorable Njie as it works to uphold The Gambia’s interests both at home and abroad,” a statement from the Ministry concluded.
