Scorpions coach, Tom Saintfiet expressed disappointment over the absence of certain called-up Gambian players for the Saturday match against South Sudan.

The Coach acknowledged that the absence of some of the players was due to injury but alleged that others preferred club duties to national team duty.

“Let me first address that I am (a) little bit disappointed that a lot of the called-up players didn’t come. Some of the boys have good reasons because they are injured. But some others preferred club duties ahead of the national team, and that is actually disappointing,” he said while speaking to journalists at a pre-march press conference in Senegal on Friday.

The coach added that the 24 players line-up for the Saturday Gambia-South Sudan clash at the Stade Lat Dior in the Senegalese city are all fit for the game.

The Scorpions are set to face South Sudan on Saturday in Thies, Senegal before visiting Congo four days later as they seek a second consecutive AFCON ticket following their historic run in Cameroon.
