The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (MoHERST) has convened a Validation Workshop to review the findings of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Graduate Tracer Study Report 2024.

Funded by the World Bank through the Central Project Coordination Unit (CPCU) at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the study aims to assess the effectiveness of TVET programs in The Gambia and their alignment with labor market needs. The workshop brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the study’s outcomes and explore strategies for enhancing skills development and employment opportunities.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Pierre Gomez, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, emphasized that the study goes beyond statistical analysis, reflecting the government’s commitment to building a skills-driven economy. He highlighted the importance of equipping Gambian youth with quality training to foster employment opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.

“Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Adama Barrow, our government has prioritized youth empowerment through TVET as a key pillar of national development. We recognize that the prosperity of our nation depends on the ability of our youth to access the right skills, adapt to industry demands, and drive innovation. This is why we continue to expand TVET opportunities, invest in training infrastructure, and enhance partnership with the private sector,” he said.

Anta Taal, a representative from the Central Project Coordination Unit (CPCU) at the Ministry of Finance, expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s support in facilitating the study. She underscored the importance of the initiative in advancing skills development, economic inclusion, and resilience.

“This initiative exemplifies our steadfast commitment to fostering an educational paradigm that is both responsive and transformative. The findings of this study will serve as an indispensable repository of knowledge, shaping the discourse of TVET effectiveness and providing a new one’s understanding of its impact on economic development,” She Said

A representative from the Africa Label Group, the expert team responsible for conducting the study, also extended gratitude to MoHERST and the World Bank for their trust and collaboration.

The TVET Graduate Tracer Study Report 2024 is expected to provide critical insights into workforce readiness, ensuring that graduates are better prepared to meet the evolving demands of the job market.
