Ida’s Ideas over the weekend graduated 13 students in fashion design, following their successful completion of a two years Diploma course.

In her opening remarks, CEO of Ida’s Ideas, Ida Saine Conteh said fashion design has been her passion and is thinking of boosting the fashion industry in Gambia.

“Boosting the fashion industry in The Gambia is the reason I opened an institution to teach young Gambians to play their part in national development,” she said.

The Principal and managing director of Ida’s Ideas, Chan Mendy, said skills of fashion design are not encouraged in the Gambia; but thanks to the fashion designers’ association, and others are making people believe that fashion design is a noble profession and can bring a lot of income in the Gambia.

“As the students graduated, she made them realize that they have moved from where they used to be, to another level in terms of skills and knowledge with a wise attitude and she wants them to remember that life does not stop here. We keep on learning to the grave, there must be a strategy, and action as this is just a stepping-stone. You must be passionate about what you like and treat people the way you want to be treated,” she added.

The Minister for Basic and Secondary Education Claudiana Ayo Cole encouraged the graduates to use the skills learned ‘seriously’ and stay focused to meet their goals.

“I want to appeal to  you all the graduates to use the skills you have learned from this great institution to the world and make sure you take it  very seriously if you want to fit in the market of the fashion industry and know that this is just a beginning for you guys” Minister Cole said.

Isatou Camara, One of the graduates said the skills they acquire at the school are ‘very useful and lucrative’ to them.
