Hon Mainuma Ceesay Darboe: Crime Rate In This Country Is Very Scary

Nominated National Assembly member, Honorable Maimuna Ceesay-Darboe, said the crime rate in the Gambia is very scary. Mrs. Ceesay-Darboe made these remarks on Friday, December 5, 2022, while contributing to the 2023 budget speech debate.
“The crime rate is very scary in this country. Let nobody fool us here, we are not secured when it comes to crimes in this country, “she said.
The nominated NAM postulated that the crime situation in the country is so bad that people routinely locked their doors to walk from their houses to the gate.
She called on the honorable Minister of Finance to strengthen the capacity of the Gambia police force by allocating them funds for effective policing and to monitor the funds allocated to make sure they are put to good use.
“The criminality rate in this country is alarming, and scary. I think there is a need for the police to be empowered.
“If there is a crime somewhere and people reach out to the police for help, the only response they get is we don’t have mobility. Is either victim hiring a taxi for them (Police) to come to you, or the suspect will get away. So, some of these things need to be considered by the minister,” she said.
