The spokesperson for the United Democratic Party (UDP), Almami Fanding Taal has disclosed to this medium that 16 (sixteen) people have applied to contest for the Brikama Area Council Chairmanship under the United Democratic Party ticket.
“The application closed on the 10th (November), but we gave chance to ward Councilors who didn’t apply yet until next Thursday. The application process will finally close on Thursday, the 24th of November, 2022. There was only one applicant for Mayor of Banjul and Kanifing Municipality. The regional Chairperson positions in Lower River Region, Upper River Region, and North Bank region garnered single applicants as well. So it is only in the chairperson position for Brikama, Kuntaur, and Janjanbureh that we have more than one applicant. Where ever we have more than one applicant, we will hold primaries to select one candidate. We have sixteen applicants for the West Coast chairperson position but I cannot remember how many we have for Kuntaur and Janjanbureh, but it is multiple applicants for both.” the UDP spokesperson told Kerr Fatou.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) won seven seats during the last local government elections but expelled their Brikama Area Council chairman, Mr. Sheriffo Sonko.
