The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has intercepted 18 suspected irregular migrants during an overnight patrol of coastal communities in the West Coast Region.
The operation was carried out by the department’s Border Patrol Unit, stationed at the Migration Management Unit, with support from the COP II Project.
According to the GID, the migrants were intercepted in Tanji during the patrol. The group consisted of three Gambians, 12 Senegalese, and three Malians; all of them were male.
“The successful operation underscores the GID’s continued commitment to strengthening collaboration with national and international partners in combating irregular migration, human trafficking, and transnational organized crime,” the department said in a statement.
The GID also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding The Gambia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as part of its broader mandate to strengthen border security and combat irregular migration.
