The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) President Lamin Kabba Bajo has withdrawn his candidature for election into the FIFA Council.
“The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) wishes to inform its stakeholders and the general public that our President, Mr. Lamin Kabba Bajo, has decided to withdraw his candidature for election into the FIFA Council,” GFF said in a statement.
“After extensive consultations and negotiations, I decided to step down in the interest of the unity of the CAF [Confederation of African Football] family, and also in the ultimate interest of the GFF. And that my personal ambition will not override the interest of the GFF,” Bajo  said in a statement.
Mr. Bajo thanked Gambians for the support and solidarity they have accorded to him since he was cleared by the FIFA Ethics Committee to vie for the top job.
The election for the CAF Presidency, FIFA Council Members, amongst others will take place in Rabat in Morocco at the Confederation of African Football’s Congress on 12th March (today).
President Bajo is representing the GFF at the said Congress together with Ismaila Ceesay, a GFF executive committee member.
