Ansu Sanneh, presidential aspirant for the National Builders Party (NBP), has urged the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to uphold fairness, transparency, and independence in conducting The Gambia’s forthcoming presidential election.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday after submitting his nomination papers to the IEC, Sanneh expressed confidence in the commission but cautioned against external interference in the electoral process.

He commended the public nature of the nomination proceedings, saying they demonstrated transparency and allowed Gambians and the international community to observe the process. However, he urged the commission to maintain the same standards in its internal operations.

Sanneh described the presidential election as a critical moment in The Gambia’s democratic process, emphasizing that the country’s peace and stability depend on the IEC’s ability to conduct a credible, professional, and independent election.

“The whole world is watching, and Gambians are watching, and I trust the IEC to do due diligence to allow Gambians to decide who their leaders are at the ballot box,” he said.

Turning to his presidential ambitions, Sanneh described the NBP as the only party with a comprehensive plan to address the country’s challenges.

He said his party had undertaken an extensive assessment of The Gambia’s development challenges, examining their underlying causes and identifying practical solutions.

According to Sanneh, the party has developed a policy blueprint covering 51 areas, which he believes provides a clear roadmap for national development.

He expressed confidence in his candidacy, maintaining that the NBP’s policy proposals position him as the right candidate to move The Gambia forward.
