President Barrow visits Chinese Railway Construction Company

President Adama Barrow has on Wednesday visited the Chinese Railway Construction Company (CRCC) in Beijing, where he was shown an exhibition of the company’s various projects in construction, and investments in industries.

The Gambian leader was also introduced to the specific infrastructural projects of CRC in Africa such as the construction of roads, bridges and railways.

The China-Africa relationship is strengthened by the building of the infrastructural development needs of the people which is a key driver of socio-economic growth.

President Barrow expressed appreciation to the genuine partnership between China and Gambia on priority areas such as energy and road constructions while assuring the chairman of the company the political will to work with CRCC in the future.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of CRCC, Chen Fenjian, introducing his company gave a trajectory of projects carried out during its fifty-year experience.

He said since the re-connection of ties between The Gambia and China, CRCC has reached out to The Gambia and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The company has since completed a preliminary study on the Mandinary – Abuko road.

They have also signed an MOU with Energy, and in line with the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s statement, have pledge to work with The Gambia.

Mr Fenjian said that the Beijing-Banjul relations is at a strategic point and that he’s committed to contribute to strengthening the cooperation.

He added that he’s committed to working with financiers to realise some of the eight major initiatives stated in the China -Africa cooperation The Gambia could tap into the opportunities provided by FOCAC to build roads and bridges in the Greater Banjul Area in the next three years.
