President Adama Barrow said he is not worried about some Gambians doubting the AstraZenecavaccine for Covid prevention.
However, he was quick to call on the media to join the campaign to sensitize the people about the dangers of not taking the vaccine.
The president made these remarks on Wednesday [today], after receiving his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at State House on Wednesday, when asked whether he is worried that many Gambians don’t trust the vaccine.
“I’m not worried, but I think we should all campaign, especially the media. You [media] should try to sensitize the people so that they understand the danger in this. So that they can understand how serious the disease is,” the president replied.
The ceremony was attended by ministers and other Government officials.
On 10th March this year, President Barrow took his first jab of the vaccine, after he launched the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign at the State House.
The launch came less than 10 days following the arrival of the first shipment of the 36,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to The Gambia by UNICEF on behalf of the COVAX Facility. Followed by the donation of 10, 000 doses of the Sino-Pharma covid vaccine by Senegalese government as a solidarity gesture.
