President Adama Barrow laid foundation stones over the weekend for a series of road construction projects in the North Bank Region, marking the start of Phase II of the Connect Gambia Infrastructure Project.
The ceremonies, held Saturday and Sunday, covered communities including Barra, Fass Njaga Choi, Kerr Samba Kalla, Bakalarr, Jurunku, Kerr Omar Saine, Daru Rilwan, Kerr Saikou Taal, Kerr Pateh, and the Kerewan Highway Governor’s Office road.
The initiative is expected to deliver approximately 360 kilometers of new roads, aimed at improving connectivity, easing the movement of people and goods, and expanding access to essential services such as health facilities, schools, and markets.
Speaking at the events, President Barrow described the North Bank Region as one of the country’s most active agricultural areas and a vital gateway for trade.
“The road we are launching here today, once completed, will carry our farmers productively to the markets of their choice, cutting the post-harvest losses that have long cost them dearly and opening the way to better prices and stronger livelihoods,” he said. “By doing this, we are changing the old narrative.”
The president added that the road projects underscored the government’s commitment to unlocking the agricultural potential of the region, noting that farmers would now have easier access to markets.
