President Adama Barrow has on Saturday inaugurated the One-hundred and twelve million Dalasi (D112 million) market in Basse.

“Today, from the ashes of the old market, now stands this magnificent community facility, which every Gambian should be proud of, not to mention the residents of Basse. This inaugural ceremony is, therefore, [a] cause for thanksgiving and a great joy for all of us,” he said in his inaugural speech.

The facility is meant to cater for the huge volume of commercial activities within the area, and beyond.

The new infrastructure has 246 vendor shops, 2 mini-markets, and four (4) sheds with the capacity to house 70 women vegetable sellers.

The market, which was constructed over a period of sixteen (16) months, was fully funded by the Government of the Gambia.
