The Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Thursday carried out an intelligence-led operation across Bundung and Serekunda, resulting in the arrest of 43 individuals for alleged involvement in common nuisance and related offences.
According to a police statement, following a screening exercise conducted by the Criminal Intelligence Unit, 30 of the suspects were charged with common nuisance under Section 137 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. Nine others were referred to the Gambia Immigration Department for further action.
The police further reported that two of the individuals apprehended were believed to be mentally unstable and were consequently transferred to Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital for medical attention. One suspect was released on medical grounds, while another reportedly escaped during the screening process.
“The operation targeted known hotspots and high-risk zones, reflecting the GPF’s proactive approach to intelligence-led policing to deter crime and enhance public safety,” the police stated.
The GPF expressed appreciation to sister security services for their cooperation and continued support in maintaining law and order.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and public safety, the police urged members of the public to assist law enforcement by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
