The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment [MoTIE] has launched a D48 million vegetable platform project in Jenoi.

MoTIE held the launch today [12th August 2021] in the famous Lower River Region settlement with the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency as well as Enabel [the development agency of the Belgian Federal Government implementing agency of the European Union].

The platform will be a structure that would comprise a cold store and a processing centre for vegetable produces to avoid post-harvest losses.

It is intended to be an agropol targeting the ECOWAS corridor and the regional market, given the strategic location of the settlement.

The initiative would help women to process and store their vegetable produce to avoid post-harvest losses, and sell them at a reasonable price to increase their income and enhance their welfare.

The development is expected to boost the production and marketing of horticultural products as well as promote export trade with the West African Corridor for sustainable job creation for the youth and women in the Lower River Region [LRR]and beyond.

The Vegetable Platform Project also aims to make Jenoi village, and other regions of the country, a Special Economic Zones (SEZs), according to the Ministry of Trade.

The project is funded by the Enabel project, which is the development agency of the Belgian Federal Government implementing agency of the European Union operating in North, Central and West Africa.
