Majority Leader Hon. Billay G. Tunkara has announced plans to table a motion in the National Assembly calling for the establishment of a Special Select Committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the sale of assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh.
The move follows recent revelations by The Republic newspaper, which raised serious concerns about the handling and transparency of the asset sales.
“In wake of the serious revelations regarding the alleged inappropriate sales of the assets of former President Yahya Jammeh, I have today submitted a formal notice of intention to the Clerk of the National Assembly to introduce a motion in the National Assembly for the Assembly to consider establishing a Special Select Committee to impartially conduct a full inquiry into the matter with a view to establishing the whole truth,” Tunkara said in a statement.
He added that the Clerk’s Office has been directed to assist in preparing the motion, which is expected to be tabled during the Assembly’s upcoming June session.
“My office, together with all the members supporting this initiative, shall do all it takes to pursue the matter to its conclusion for the interest of transparency and accountability,” he affirmed.
