Kunta Kinteh Ferry, Out of Service for Six Weeks for Repairs

Starting from March 6th, 2024, the Kunta Kinteh Ferry will be out of service for six weeks, the Gambia Ferry Service announced on Thursday. The ferry will undergo dry-docking for maintenance works, including underwater scraping, welding, painting, and installing new engines and propulsion systems.
“The Gambia Ferry Service Management wishes to inform the general public and its esteemed customers that Kunta Kinteh Ferry will be withdrawn for dry-docking for the following maintenance works to be carried out; underwater scraping, welding, painting, installation of the new engines and propulsion systems. The works are expected to last for six weeks, with effect from 6th March 2024. In the meantime, Kanilai Ferry will be deployed to provide limited service along the Banjul and Barra routes,” the Ferry Service announced on Thursday.
While the Kunta Kinteh Ferry is being repaired, the Kanilai Ferry will offer limited service on the Banjul and Barra routes. The Gambia Ferry Service Management advised travelers and truck operators to use the Senegambia Bridge as an alternative during this period.
