The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has registered three new political parties in The Gambia, bringing the total number of registered parties in the country to 27 ahead of the December 5 presidential election.
The commission announced on Thursday, September 17, 2026, that the National Democratic Party (NDP), Gambia Labour Party (GLP), and National Builders Party (NBP) had fulfilled the requirements for registration under Section 106 of the Elections Act, 2025.
The NDP is led by Kebba Bojang, while the GLP is headed by Bakusa Dukureh and the NBP by Ansu Sanneh.
Announcing the NDP’s registration to party executives, IEC Chairman Joseph Colley said the commission’s decisions are guided by the law and established procedures.
Colley said the formation of political parties is provided for under Section 60 of the Constitution, while Section 106 of the Elections Act sets out the requirements parties must meet to obtain registration.
He said the NDP had satisfied the constitutional and legal requirements and was therefore formally registered as a political party effective September 17, 2026.
The addition of the three parties expands The Gambia’s political landscape as the country moves closer to the December 5, 2026, presidential election.
