In a press briefing by the office of the National Security Adviser, the Gambia government has said that civilians are allegedly involved in sponsoring the alleged attempted coup d’etat in the Gambia.

“it has been established that the alleged coup plotters made contacts and held clandestine meetings in some places identified within the country, as they were planning the unearthed coup plot. Also, reports are pointing to the suspected involvement of sponsors for the coup plot from civilian collaborators both within and outside of the country. The investigations are seriously looking into this angle. In addition, an Operational Plan of the alleged plot detailing the outline of the botched plot is already in the hands of investigators..,” National Security Adviser Abubakarr Suleiman Jeng said during the press briefing.

On Tuesday, 20 December 2022, The Gambia Government announced a foiled coup plot, which led to the immediate arrest by The Gambia Armed Forces of five (5) members of the force linked to the reported coup.
