The sentencing of the soldiers will be announced on Monday, May 27
The court martial of the Gambia has found 8 soldiers guilty on charges of treason, concealment of treason and mutiny, among other counts.
The soldiers were led by Yaya Jammeh, an aide to former President Yahya Jammeh.
The 8 soldiers who faced 9 counts were charged in connection to a planned coup they fermented against the administration of President Adama Barrow in 2017.
Though the jail terms have not being announced, the soldiers faces potentials of a life and death sentences.
The 12 soldiers charged are Yaya Jammeh, an aide to former President Yahya Jammeh, Lieutenant Abdoulie Jarju, Sergeant Babucarr Sanneh, Sergeant Malick Bojang, Corporal Sulayman Sanyang, Corporal Lamin Gibba, Corporal Ebrima Jallow, Lance Corporal Samboujang Bojang, Lance Corporal Abba Badjie, Private Mbemba Camara and Private Alieu Sanneh.
However, Corporal Sulayman Sanyang, Corporal Lamin Gibba, Corporal Lamin Bojang and Lance Corporal Sambou Bojang were found not guilty.
The soldiers attended the court martial at Yundum Barracks.
The 12 men were said to be part of a group using WhatsApp spreading audio recordings in contrast with Gambia Armed Forces Act.
Meanwhile, the court martial has also set Monday May 27 for judgment in the case of two top generals of the Gambia Armed Forces.
Major General Umpa Mendy and Major General Ansumana Tamba have been standing trial on allegations they deserted the army.
The two fled with former president Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea in January 2017 and returned unexpectedly in January last year.
They were arrested and charged with desertion and they faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Umpa Mendy is a principal protection officer for former president Jammeh, while Ansumana Tamba was the former head of the State Guards Battalion.
