The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security has announced that fertilizer will be sold at a subsidized price of D1,100 per bag for the 2025 rainy season.

In a statement released Thursday, the Ministry informed the general public—particularly the farming community—that a total of 28,892 metric tons, equivalent to 577,800 bags, will be made available for nationwide distribution.

“The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security wishes to inform the general public, particularly the farming community, that the selling price of fertilizer for this farming season is GMD 1,100 per bag,

“This subsidized price is made possible through a significant contribution by the Government of The Gambia, which is subsidizing GMD 1,875 per bag to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity,” the Ministry stated.

The government also issued a stern warning against the illegal transport of fertilizer across national borders, emphasizing that violators will face strict legal penalties.

Reaffirming its commitment to supporting farmers, the Ministry cautioned that any agent with outstanding debts to the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (formerly Gambia Groundnut Corporation) from previous fertilizer sales will be barred from participating in this year’s distribution exercise unless full payment is made immediately.

“The Government of The Gambia remains committed to ensuring timely and affordable access to inputs for our hardworking farmers. An agent who is indebted to the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (formerly GGC) for fertilizer sales conducted last year will be disqualified from participating as an agent in the upcoming fertilizer distribution exercise unless full payment of all outstanding arrears is made immediately. In the meantime, new agents will be identified and engaged to ensure the timely and efficient sale of fertilizer to farmers,” the statement concluded.
