Hon. Omar Ceesay, the former National Assembly Member representing Niamina East Constituency, has expressed strong disapproval of Inspector General of Police Abdoulie Sanyang’s purported coordination of drummers for Ramou Sabally, who recently switched from the opposition United Democratic Party to the president’s National People’s Party.

Ceesay expressed disapproval of the IGP’s office engaging in actions that involve providing resources, both human and material, to support a political figure during a meeting with the president for political gains. He emphasized that such involvement in political affairs, including offering financial or material assistance to any political figure or party, is inappropriate and should be deemed unprofessional and unethical, undermining the institution’s integrity and reputation.

“It’s out of order for the office of the IGP to aid, facilitate, and mobilize material and human resources to accompany a political figure [s] to meet the president to dwell on political gain points. It’s not in the place of the IGP to partake in political affairs or provide financial or material assistance to any political figure or party. An act of such nature should be considered unprofessional and unethical by all standards as it stands to undermine the integrity and reputation of the institution,” Ceesay said.

The former MP asserted that the IGP’s office should maintain impartiality, focusing on fair treatment and justice for all citizens in accordance with the law, while refraining from participating in political activities. Additionally, Ceesay called upon political parties and civil society organizations to strongly condemn this alleged act.

During her meeting with the president at State House, Ramou Sabally claimed that the Gambian Inspector General of Police, Abdoulie Sanyang, had organized drummers to accompany her for the occasion.
