Former Barra police station officer admits tampering with police diary in 2005

Ibrahim Jawara Demba who was the Station Officer (SO) at Barra Police Station when the West African migrants were apprehended in the town admitted tampering with the diary at Barra police station by accepting to transfer all the information in a new diary except that of the Ghanaians migrants.

He claimed to have done it on the instruction of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ousman Sonko.

He admitted to the act in a question and session between witness Demba and Lead Counsel Faal during his testimony at the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission yesterday.

FAAL: You knew All of you where busy fabricating evidence?

JAWARA: Yes.

FAAL: And instructions of the IGP were carried out?

JAWARA: Yes Counsel.

FAAL: And the information about the Ghanaians are not included in the new diary?

JAWARA: Yes counsel.

FAAL: And you know that is fabrication and Falsification of evidence?

JAWARA: Yes counsel.

The witness said that the old diary was under his junior officer Babucarr Bah whom he said told him that the then IGP Ousman Sonko directed him to take the diary to Banjul.

Ibrahim Jawara Demba is currently serving at the Gambia Police Force as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
