Essa Bokar Sey , Former Ambassador

Essa Bokar Sey, former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the OIC Banjul Secretariat and former Gambian Ambassador to China, has declared his intention to run in The Gambia’s 2026 presidential election.
In a statement published on his Facebook page, Sey emphasized his commitment to national service and democratic progress.”As a person who was born in The Gambia, a country I owe a lot to, I deem it fit to be part of the forthcoming 2026 presidential elections to help salvage our nation democratically,” Sey wrote.
He noted that preparations are underway to formalize his political movement. “Party name, logo, manifesto, and flag will certainly become public knowledge once we complete the task in respect of the letter cum guidelines, criteria our team received from the IEC Independent Electoral Commission about two months ago,” he said.
Sey also highlighted the inclusive nature of his campaign, stating that his team is well-organized and welcomes input from citizens. He identified youth, women, and children as the primary focus of his platform.
“Our team is well organized and is open to receiving suggestions from every citizen. Our first priorities are youth, women, and children, Inshaa Allah,” he said.
