Statement By Gambians Against Looted Assets
Protesters at Westfield
Press statement
Fellow Gambians,
We talk to you today with a high degree of acknowledgement and humility. As a Nationalist movement, we thank the Gambian people especially the youth for standing in solidarity with each other, shoulder to shoulder, through days and nights, to confront corruption. These few days of National solidarity is unprecedented, suffice to say, the biggest youth protest in the history of this country.
We equally stand in solidarity with Mr. Mustapha Swandi K Darboe and thank him for his brave strides in ensuring a generational theft is exposed. We thank the Gambian people, both and abroad, for standing up in realization of their rights’ to defend themselves and hold their government accountable.
This new revolution triggered by the corrupt sales of the former President’s assets, which is qualified to be called a generational theft, will going forward, put an end to institutionalized corruption, impunity, bad governance and police brutality. Going forward, a National movement that every Gambian will identify with is what we seek to build. We implore all Gambians, from all political parties, religious identities, regions, all Gambians that believe in a country premised on equal opportunities for everyone, to join us in fighting for a Gambia with zero tolerance to bad governance.
We acknowledge the government’s compliance to some of our demands: the publication of the list and the demand for the President to address the Nation. We welcome all efforts, that seek to ensure that there is full accountability for the sales of the former President’s assets by the Janneh Commission of enquiries. We will take a position regarding the list published once we have thoroughly analyzed all the information.
We want to equally use this missive to encourage everyone to attend tomorrow’s extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly regarding the investigative report of the sales of the former President’s assets by 10:00am at the National Assembly in Banjul.
GALA believes that with concerted efforts, through youth activism, both home and abroad, we can bring an end to corruption and bad governance in all public institutions.
End…………….
Signed
