In the ongoing discourse surrounding Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), it is essential to acknowledge that the practice is often rooted in religious beliefs rather than solely being a cultural tradition. This perspective calls for a nuanced discussion and a careful consideration of the rights and freedoms of those who wish to practice it. Advocating for the acceptance of FGM does not seek to undermine the principles of democracy but rather emphasizes the importance of respecting diverse religious practices.

The proposed bill supporting the practice of FGM seeks to address a crucial aspect often overlooked in the conversation – the religious motivations behind this tradition. Parliamentarians should prioritize passing this bill to strike a balance between cultural sensitivity and religious freedom. This is not an endorsement of harm but an acknowledgment that individuals have the right to practice their faith within the bounds of the law.

While addressing the FGM issue, it is equally vital for the government to focus on key issues that directly impact the nation’s well-being. Corruption, nepotism, bribery, laziness, and embezzlement of public funds are grave offenses that erode the foundations of a thriving society. Parliamentarians must not only pass the bill on FGM but also actively work towards legislation that combats these issues, ensuring the welfare of the citizens and maintaining the integrity of the democratic system.

Defending the rights of women should be at the forefront of any democratic state’s agenda. Political leaders have a responsibility to safeguard the freedoms of individuals, including those who wish to practice FGM as an expression of their religious beliefs. However, this support doesn’t negate the need for regulations and guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.

Drawing comparisons between FGM and unrelated issues like LGBTQIA rights can be misleading. Each matter requires individual consideration, and supporting one doesn’t undermine the significance of the other. Parliamentarians should focus on creating legislation that addresses various concerns without pitting them against each other.

In a democratic state, it is crucial to respect diverse religious practices while maintaining the well-being and rights of all citizens. Parliamentarians must exercise their duty to protect individual freedoms, even when faced with controversial issues. Let us promote understanding and tolerance, recognizing that diversity is an integral part of a democratic society, and people should be allowed to express and practice their beliefs within the framework of the law.
