Gambia reaches 22 coronavirus cases, 2 new cases confirmed

The Gambia’s Health Ministry on Monday confirmed two new coronavirus cases in The Gambia, brings the total number of confirmed cases to 22 in The Gambia with one death.
The two newly cases: male, 84, and female, 51, have both been in quarantine recently after returning from Senegal.
Buba Darboe, programme manager at the directorate of Health Promotion and Education under the Ministry of Health, was speaking during the ministry’s daily covid-19 briefing on Monday, where he noted that there are two probable cases.
He revealed that one of the new probable cases is in quarantine for having a recent travel history to Senegal, while the other is linked to one of the newly confirmed cases.
He added that out of the 45 laboratory test results received, 43 are results of samples taken from new people and two are repeat test results.
“Out of the results of newly tested people, 39 returned negative, two indeterminate and two returned positive for covid-19. Of the repeat test results, whereas one of the previously confirmed cases remains positive; the results of another previously confirmed case returned negative for the second consecutive time (which is indicative of her recovery from covid-19),” he said.
According to him, while seven persons were newly taken into quarantine, 17 people were discharged after testing negative for covid-19 upon completion of the mandatory quarantine period.
Mr. Darboe added that four high-risk contacts were traced and 30 low-risk contacts completed follow-up, adding that the country currently has 89 persons under quarantine, 11 active cases and three probable cases
Meanwhile, the Senegalese Ministry of Health today reported 177 positive cases of covid-19, bringing the total to 1,886 cases; 19 deaths, 715 recoveries and 1151 under treatment.
