On Monday 4th March 2024, Honorable Ebrima Sillah, the Minister of Transport Works And Infrastructure, introduced the Cybercrime Bill, 2023 to the parliament on behalf of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy.

This legislation aims to address cyber infringements and crimes perpetrated through computer systems, as well as related criminal activities. Its primary objectives include enhancing legal provisions concerning cybercrime investigation, establishing procedures for acquiring electronic evidence, and fostering international cooperation to combat cyber threats effectively.
“This Bill seeks to enhance substantial provisions with respect to cybercrime and establish procedural measures for obtaining electronic evidence and international cooperation for an effective fight against cybercrime.”
The Bill also intends to include provisions to protect children from online exploitation, harassment, blackmail, and other computer-related crimes, empower law enforcement agencies in the fight against cybercrime, and create mechanisms for quick access to electronic evidence.
