The National Assembly member for Foni Kansala, Almameh Gibba, has dismissed Demba Sabally’s political influence in the constituency, describing him as “vulnerable” and arguing that he has no meaningful political base in the area.

Speaking in an interview with Gambian Talent Promotion TV, Gibba said Sabally could not claim to speak for the people of Kansala because he lacked deep political roots there. He also pointed to the decision by Mama Kandeh, Sabally’s former political leader, to join President Adama Barrow’s coalition, predicting that the move would further weaken Sabally’s standing within the governing National People’s Party.

“For Demba, I just saw him as a very vulnerable person,” Gibba said. “I will leave him with the fight with Mama Kandeh.”

Gibba recalled campaigning against Sabally in Bondali during the last election, saying he had managed to narrow Sabally’s margin there to just five votes despite not being from the constituency. He cited the result as evidence that Sabally’s political support was not as strong as he portrayed it to be.

The lawmaker also questioned Sabally’s development record in Foni Kansala, saying he could not point to projects such as a community garden or borehole that he had brought to the constituency.

Gibba said his own relationship with Kansala was different, arguing that his constituents knew him well and would tell him directly if they were dissatisfied with his representation.

He also dismissed the prospects of the NPP and its allies making significant political gains in Foni Kansala, saying he was prepared to face anyone the governing coalition put forward.

“Kansala is here to stay, and we will fight to make sure the name Jammeh continues to echo in the four corners of this country,” Gibba said. “And we remain loyal to him.”

Gibba said his loyalty remained with his constituency, The Gambia, and former President Yahya Jammeh. He portrayed Foni Kansala as a political stronghold that would be difficult for rival parties to penetrate and said he was prepared to defend his seat against any challenger.
