Kemo Bojang, the UNITE Party’s deputy leader for political matters and media relations, says Coalition 2026 is gaining support among voters in the Upper River Region, particularly young people and women, as the alliance seeks to broaden its appeal ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Bojang said the coalition’s recent activities in the region, including a visit by its presidential candidate, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, had helped generate enthusiasm and goodwill among voters.

“We have gathered a lot of support, a lot of goodwill from especially young people and women of URR and especially also the older generation,” Bojang said.

He described the response from older voters as particularly encouraging, noting that both UNITE and Coalition 2026 have often been viewed as political movements driven largely by younger Gambians.

Bojang said the coalition believes the presidential race is beginning to take shape, with Bensouda emerging as a significant challenger to President Adama Barrow. Ultimately, he said, Gambian voters will decide the outcome at the polls.

Coalition 2026, Bojang said, grew out of discussions among established political groups that agreed on the need for a change in leadership and eventually settled on a common candidate.

He said the coalition believes Bensouda can appeal across generations, connecting with younger Gambians while earning the confidence and respect of older voters.

“We need a candidate who has a clearly defined plan and is ready to bring change to the people,” Bojang said.

He added that Coalition 2026 remains hopeful that its message will resonate with voters across the country as it campaigns for Bensouda ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
