The Gambia and Gabon have signed a reciprocal visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, one of several accords concluded during the three-day state visit of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to Banjul.
The agreement forms part of a joint communiqué issued at the end of the visit, which both governments described as a step toward expanding bilateral cooperation.
Speaking on GRTS, the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, said the two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on political and diplomatic consultations.
“The two countries signed an MoU on political and diplomatic consultations, marking a significant milestone in the continued strengthening of bilateral relations,” Dr. Ceesay said.
According to the joint communiqué, The Gambia and Gabon agreed to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, including political and diplomatic engagement, economic and technical partnership, cultural exchanges, and collaboration in other areas of shared interest.
In addition to the visa waiver agreement, the two governments signed a general cooperation agreement and an agreement establishing a joint commission to oversee future bilateral initiatives.
President Nguema’s visit included a private meeting with President Adama Barrow, followed by bilateral talks between officials from both countries aimed at strengthening ties and expanding cooperation in key development sectors.
