President Adama Barrow on Sunday called on members of the governing National People’s Party to resolve internal disagreements out of public view and present a united front, following the circulation of a leaked audio recording attributed to the deputy speaker, Seedy Njie.

The recording, widely shared on social media in recent days, has prompted debate among party supporters and the broader public, placing fresh attention on internal dynamics within the National People’s Party.

Speaking at the State House after receiving a group of women from various political parties who had joined the N.P.P., Mr. Barrow acknowledged that mistakes are inevitable in political life but said they should be handled discreetly.

“No one among us is an angel,” he said. “Anyone can make a mistake—I can make a mistake, a regional chairman can make a mistake, or any other person can.”

Mr. Barrow urged party members to address concerns through internal channels rather than airing grievances online. Public criticism of colleagues, he warned, risks undermining both individual reputations and the party’s broader standing.

“If anyone makes a mistake, let us address it together within the house,” he said. “But outside, we should show support so that it is clear we stand with one another.”

He added that attacks on social media, even when intended to hold others accountable, can ultimately be self-defeating. “When people go online to criticize and insult others, thinking they are damaging someone else’s reputation, they may not realize they are damaging their own,” he said.

The president’s remarks underscore an effort to contain internal dissent as the party navigates growing public scrutiny in the wake of the leaked recording.
