Ebrima Tabora Manneh, the leader and secretary general of the People’s Alliance Party, has urged President Adama Barrow of The Gambia not to pursue a third term in office, warning that such a decision could ultimately damage his legacy.

“I am sincerely advising him to stop at two terms, step down, and enjoy his life,” Mr. Manneh said. “But where he is being pushed toward, if care is not taken, only shame will meet him there, and he deserves better than that.”

Mr. Manneh made the remarks during an appearance on the political talk show “Politic Kacha,” where he delivered a sharp critique of the Barrow administration’s record.

He argued that if the government had met public expectations, opposition figures like himself might not have felt compelled to seek the presidency. Instead, he said, the administration had “failed woefully” and lacked a clear direction for national development and the protection of citizens’ rights.

Comparing The Gambia’s progress with that of other countries, Mr. Manneh said the nation had fallen behind. “Even Barrow and his people, if they reflect, will know they have failed,” he said.

Mr. Manneh also suggested that advisers surrounding the president wield disproportionate influence. “Those around him are smarter than him, and they are playing him,” he said, adding, “Unfortunately, looking at Barrow, you sometimes feel pity for him.”
