The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has announced a renewed and uncompromising commitment to dismantling criminal enterprises operating within the country. In a strongly worded statement, the force vowed to expose, arrest, charge, and prosecute both local and foreign individuals or groups engaged in unlawful activities that threaten the nation’s peace and security.

“There will be no safe haven for criminals within our borders,”the statement emphasized. “Individuals and groups attempt to take advantage of our openness and peaceful nature to carry out illegal activities that threaten national security, public safety, and the good name of our beloved nation.”

The GPF underscored that The Gambia, known internationally as the Smiling Coast of Africa, has earned a reputation for its hospitality, tolerance, and stability. However, the force noted that this very reputation has, in some instances, attracted criminal elements seeking to take advantage of the country’s openness. “Our people are renowned for their friendliness, tolerance, and commitment to harmony, making the country a beacon of tranquility in the region,” the police statement continued.

Reaffirming its mandate, the GPF pledged to safeguard The Gambia’s image as a safe and welcoming nation for citizens and visitors alike, “a land of peace, safety, and hospitality for law-abiding citizens and visitors, but a hostile ground for criminals.”

The GPF emphasized that the country’s security forces, particularly the police, remain vigilant and resolute in safeguarding national security, public safety, and the integrity of the nation.
