The Gambia Teacher’s Union & Gov’t To Signed An Agreement Today

The Gambia Teacher’s Union (GTU) announced that they will sign an agreement with the government of the Gambia today amid their sit-down Strike.

The union represented by the Acting GS (DGS) & GTU President held a Tripartite Meeting on Saturday 7th January 2023 with the Ministry of Public Service represented by PS PMO, PS Public Service & DPS PMO, and MoBSE represented by PS MoBSE & DPS Finance MoBSE.

The Minister of Basic & Secondary Education, Senior Programs Officer GTU, General Manager GTUCCU, and Communication Assistant GTU was also in attendance.

“1. All 9 Demands were holistically looked at and an agreement was reached on each and every one of them.

“2. The Agreement between GTU, Government, and MoBSE will be signed this morning.

“3. NEC will meet at 1:00 p.m.

“4. A Press Conference will be organized at 3:00 p.m to update the Membership and the General Public on our position and

progress so far made,” the Gambia Teacher’s Union announced via a press release on Sunday.

The leadership of the Gambia Teacher’s Union however says until a declaration is made by their National Executive Committee to do otherwise, the strike still holds.
