Yankuba Touray’s Appeal Adjourned

Former Junta Member Yankuba Touray convicted and sentence to death by hanging of the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay, former Junta Finance Minister

The appeal filed by former Junta Member Yankuba Touray at the Court of Appeal of the Gambia against his conviction and subsequent sentencing to death by the High Court is adjourned to 13th June 2022.

The High Court found Yankuba Touray guilty of the murder of former Finance Minister- Ousman Koro Ceesay and sentenced him to death by hanging.

Muhammad B. Sowe, is the lawyer representing the state; while Lawyer Abdoulie Sissoho is representing Yankuba Touray.

The case is before Justice Na Ceesay Sallah -Wadda, President of the Court of Appeal of the Gambia, Justice Haddy Roche and Justice Basiru Mahoney.

When Justice Na Ceesay Salla-Wadda asked the lawyer for Yankuba Touray whether he served the respondent, which is the State, he responded in the affirmative.

She then asked the State lawyer, Muhammad B. Sowe, if he is served, and he too, the responded in the positive.  But said he needs at least a week to study the document.

Justice Na Ceesay Sallah -Wadda then adjourned the hearing to 13th June 2022 at 10 am.

Yankuba Touray, former Minister of Local Government and Lands under the APRC government was tried and convicted on a criminal charge of the murder of Ousman Koro, former Finance Minister of the Junta; after refusing to testify at the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) on circumstances surrounding the death of Ceeaay in 1995 which certain TRRC witnesses said took place at Yankuba Touray’s house and he also participated in the killing.
