By Buba Gagigo

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has donated the Independent Electoral Commission [IEC] 21 set of executive desks and chairs, 42 visitors chairs, 14 laptop computers, 14 printers and 15 internet MIFI Routers.

The commission’s chairman Alieu Momarr Njie received the items. And said they could not have come at a better time than now.

UNDP Resident Representative, Aissata DE advised the country’s electoral body to ensure optimal use of the equipment.

“The reflection I will want to leave especially the IEC, is to ensure the optimal use of these equipment by establishing a policy for the personal use of IEC business equipment as a safeguard against misuse.”

She also appealed for the maintenance of the items for durability purposes.

“Therefore, I will appalled to IEC to establish a maintenance schedule that will ensure the durability of these equipment.”

This is not the only gesture from the UN agency to Gambia’s electoral giant, as it [UNDP] is currently re-furbishing IEC’s Mansakonko, Kerewan Basse and Brikama offices.
