The National Youth President of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Haji Suwaneh, has called on Gambians to support the party in the next election, arguing that its long-standing policies and vision offer a credible path toward national development.
Speaking at a party event, Suwaneh said the UDP’s decades-long political struggle reflects its commitment to democracy, patriotism, and the country’s progress. He maintained that the party has remained consistent with the policies it first introduced in 1996, particularly in the areas of agriculture, the rule of law, and good governance.
“The consistency of the UDP’s policies and programmes from 1996 to date tells you that UDP knows the problems of this country,” Suwaneh said. “UDP wants this country to be independent through agriculture. We are also advocating for the rule of law and integrity.”
He argued that sustainable national development is impossible without respect for the rule of law, particularly among those entrusted with public office.
“No country will prosper without the rule of law being respected by those at the top,” he said. “A nation’s sovereignty cannot be complete if it continues to depend on others for its food security.”
Suwaneh also outlined the party’s infrastructure agenda, saying a UDP-led government would prioritize modernizing the country’s road network while ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities.
He added that public infrastructure projects would be implemented transparently, stressing that accountability would be central to a UDP administration.
The remarks form part of the party’s efforts to promote its policy platform ahead of the country’s presidential election, with the UDP presenting itself as an alternative focused on agricultural self-sufficiency, institutional integrity, and transparent governance.
